COMTES FHT a.s. is a private research organization that provides a wide range of services in the field of metallic materials. This research centre was founded on the premise that success will depend on the ability to add value to high-end products and develop new technologies. We aim to achieve this by supporting industrial partners in translating R&D results into practice.

The main objective of COMTES FHT a.s. is to provide highly professional services in research and development of metallic materials. The focus of our activities is on the development of new metallic materials and technologies for their processing. In the technological field, the company's research is mainly focused on forming and heat treatment processes.

COMTES FHT a. s. provides complex activities in the following areas:

  • proposals for materials
  • design of new technologies (forming, heat treatment)
  • design of tools, jigs, special equipment
  • analysis of material properties (mechanical, thermomechanical, structural, thermophysical, magnetic)
  • numerical and physical modelling of technological processes
  • numerical and physical modelling of material properties
  • production of prototypes
  • carrying out expertise and expert opinions
  • training, consultancy, advisory services
  • preparation and solution of national and international research and investment projects

The Department of Metallurgical Technology focuses on research and development of basic metallurgical processes from the actual production of metal materials through their hot and cold forming, thermal and thermomechanical processing to refining and chemical and thermal processing. The typical output of the department is new types of metal materials and complex technological processes tailored to industrial companies.

Services in the field of development or optimization of structures and technologies in a virtual environment are provided by the Computer Modelling Department. Thematic activities can be divided into two sections: Design Development and Simulation of Production Technologies.

The modelling enables very good prediction of processes in metallic materials both during the manufacture of components and during loading during operation. The most important modelled parameters are temperature distribution, strain, stress, material flow, phase transformations and the nature of tool stresses.

An integral and major part of the comprehensive service in metallic materials is provided by the Materials Analysis Department. Analyses of aluminium alloys, copper alloys, steels of all kinds, superalloys, titanium alloys, etc. are routinely carried out. Metallographic and chemical analyses are performed, as well as macro and micro volume analyses, analyses of high purity materials and chemically very complex materials. Electron microscopes are used to identify phases in standard and ultrafine structures.

In terms of the number of instruments and equipment used, the Mechanical Testing and Thermophysical Measurements department exceeds all others. The range of activities includes sampling, test body fabrication, mechanical testing over a wide range of temperatures, loads, strain rates and tests in a variety of often extreme environments. Great attention is paid to dynamic tests and measurements on very small samples. A very important area of interest is thermophysical measurements, which provide the data necessary to produce correct calculations and faithful process models.
